Moose Fine Art PRint

This moose fine art print has just the right amount of action and quiet tranquillity. It is perfect for the moose hunter and also those that love to just watch and observe wildlife. This moose drawing represents a pinnacle moment of my career.  It was my first big drawing that featured two subjects, and a major turning point for me from seeing myself as drawing for a hobby to being a professional artist.

Moose has always fascinated me since we moved to Canada in 2005.  I have always loved deer, and these being the largest is no different.  If you have yet to see one in person they are HUGE.  They have very long legs and look rather clumsy, they can be rather dangerous if not respected properly.

This drawing was drawn using Polychromos pencils on smooth bristol paper. Which you all know is my favourite way to work.

Here are some interesting facts about Moose!

  • Moose live in the northern regions of North America, Europe and Asia. Currently, most moose are found in CanadaAlaska, New England, Scandinavia, LatviaEstonia and Russia.
  • The lifespan of a moose is about 15–25 years.
  • Adult moose stands 1.4–2.1 meters (4.6–6.9 feet) high at the shoulder. Males normally weigh from 380 to 700 kilograms (838 to 1,543 pounds) and females typically weigh 200 to 490 kilograms (441 to 1,080 pounds).
  • Moose hair is hollow, which helps keep it warm.
  • The male moose have antlers like other members of the deer family. These can grow up to 1.8 meters (5.9 feet) wide from tip to tip.
  • Moose have four-chambered stomachs, as do cows.
  • Unlike most hooved, domesticated animals, moose cannot digest hay, and feeding it to a moose can be fatal.
  • They can run up to 56 kilometers (35 miles) an hour over short distances, and trot steadily at 32 kilometers (20 miles) an hour.
  • Massive shoulder muscles are the cause of the large hump on the moose’s back.
  • Their front legs are longer than their back legs, making it easier for them to jump over things lying in its path.
  • Moose have poor eyesight, but they have excellent sense of hearing and smell.
  • Moose are mostly diurnal animals.
  • Elk is the term used for Moose in Europe.
